Episode Reaction Post 12.07 & 12.08

EPISODE REACTION POST 12.07 & 12.08

I finally caught up on Supernatural again. I just did some quick reactions to both episodes. Hopefully, I will be more on point come next week.

Episode 12.07 I don't really have a whole lot to say about this episode. I think Rick Springfield did a good job as Lucifer. Cas and Crowley's weird buddy thing is amusing and I want more of it, but it still felt a bit off somehow. Dean playing words with Friends with Mary was downright adorable. The boys are definitely way tech savy these days. I felt a little smacked with it in the beginning of the episode, but I have been poking at season one lately. Sam and Dean's brotherly moment in the car was cute, but it too felt a little off as well. Sam's hair was very on point this episode. So... fossilized Lucifer bits work as power ups? What kind of video game is this?

Episode 12.08 Overall, this felt like a very well put together episode. Aw, Crowley does care about his mother. I still do not like Mr. Ketch. Wait, you can just power down the warding? Seriously, how does Lucifer not just sense Sam? He's his true vessel. Wouldn't he have some sort of homing beacon or something?

Yeah? She just annoyed me too much to have any sympathy for her. *sighs*

I wish they'd showed us this at the beginning of her arc.

Yeah. Very bad writing on their part giving us vital info about her character at the end. It would have made her much more sympathetic a character if we knew her circumstances from the beginning. And it woudl have made her death much more dramatic and tragic. *sighs*

Part of that was that her death was much sooner than it had been originally planned. Originally, her character was supposed to have a very long slow build character arc for most of the season, but then they had to suddenly write her off the show so, they tried to stick in as much as the could at the end.

I think it's still bad writing. I have no idea why they wrote her off, but I feel they could have done it better & with less "let's throw 10 episodes worth of info into one episode."

You're probably right.

The official reason listed by the CW for having to write her off in a hurry is the budget. According to statements by both Kripke and Jensen at conventions though, it had more to do with the hate mail the show was getting (not over her being badly written, but the usual "keep that slut away from our boys!" mail they get anytime a female character is introduced into the show) combined with the amount of death threats the actress was getting from fans. (Sadly, all female actresses that appear on the show get a scary amount of death threats and hate mail, at least in the first 7 seasons. Or so has been mentioned in interviews and conventions. And I haven't heard about that problem regarding Felicia Day, the woman who plays Jody or the woman who plays Donna.)
