Snowflake Challenge 3

In your own space, put some favorite characters into an AU, fuse some favorite canons together, talk about your favorite AU/fusion tropes, or tell us why AU/fusions aren’t your cup of tea.
AUs and fusions are very much my jam. I would say the vast majority of things I write are an AU, some are just slightly canon divergent, but they're still AUs. For me, writing fanfic has always been trying to write the “what if?” (Shout out to

I'm not going to list AU tropes I don't care for because every time I do that, an exception pops up.
AUs I particularly like to do (some are tropes, some are character/fandom specific):
I like to write fantasy/magical/supernatural characters in modern/no powers AUs and vice versa
Crossdressing & gender nonconforming AUs
Holiday AUs
Mpreg
Characters engaging in fandom (examples: Zuko & Sokka from AtLA making early 2000s style cosplay skit videos, Sam Winchester writing MLP fanfic to deal with his issues with his brother, Sesshoumaru being a Trekkie, Inuyasha cosplaying a Naruto.)
Characters as animals (favorite example: the vast majority of the cast of SG-1 & SGA as cats in Jack O'Neill's cat rescue)
Grown up parody versions of children's stories
Franken creatures
ALL THE FUSIONS *insert Elmo fire emoji*
Multi-Fandom Double Mart employees AU
Kon as Ichigo's twin brother AU (Bleach)
Tentacle monster aus
Dean Winchester is a nurse AUs
Tragic/forbidden romance AUs
Battling sentient toys or candy AUs
Crossover pairings
Kink exploration AUs
Putting John Sheppard and Rodney McKay in the 70s
Elf on the Shelf POV
SGA, but make it Care Bears
Mad Scientist AUs (particularly involving Rodney McKay or Bruce Wayne)
Ruby never became a demon and is Rowena's sidekick (supernatural)
Jason Todd as a werewolf
John and Rodney as monster hunters
AUs that I like to read, but rarely, if ever, write:
Dragon AUs
Coffee Shop AUs
Barbarian/Fantasy AUs
Historical AUs
AUs that I am currently/actively working on:
A Batman/Avatar: the Last Airbender crossover Occult AU inspired by the book My Little Occult Book Club by Steven Rhodes. My Little Occult Book Club is a parody of 80s children's book catalogs and I am using the books in the catalog as prompts. Most of this AU is humorous, but the one part that is posted to AO3 is very dark and only includes the Bats in it. It takes place in a world where the occult and supernatural beings live out in the open, but most people are just oblivious to it. Bruce Wayne is a mad scientist. Dick is actually adopted, not just his ward, and Bruce's former apprentice. Jason Todd is a resurrected werewolf. Tim Drake is a creature of undetermined origin and the unfortunate target of most of Jason's and Damian's shenanigans. Damian goes to a elite private school that teaches both an ordinary and occult/supernatural curriculum. Most of the main AtLA cast go to Damian's school. They have their same powers, but for different reasons. Though Mai is a necromancer. The main pairing is Jason Todd/Zuko.
Bruce & Wednesday: It's a Batman/The Addams Family crossover where the Waynes and the Addams are neighbors and Bruce and Wednesday are the same age. Adorable childhood crushes ensue.
This isn't to say I have scrapped my other unfinished AUs, these are just the ones taking up the most headspace right now.
