Whether you celebrate April 30th or May 2, I'm a little late with this, but I thought it would be fun. Credit goes to HappyHauntsLibrary & MandySpooks.

Halfway to Halloween

Do you like haunted houses?
Yes/No - Yes, I do, I don't go to them often because it's hard for me to find them where I can actually go to them.

Halloween Hunting this year?
Yes/No - Yes, technically. I go Halloween Hunting every year, but the results locally tend to be really disappointing most years, so I'm not sure how much effort I'm going to into it this year.

Candy Corn:
Love It/Hate It - My feelings are split. I enjoy candy corn as an aesthetic, but abhor it as a food substance.

Favorite Costume:
When I was 4ish, one of my cousins was on the high school dance team and one of their routines was a tribute to Batman. My mother got roped into making costumes for the team. So for Halloween that year, my mother downsized the pattern for me and made it out of black trash bags so it would also be waterproof.

Spooky Bucket List Item This Year:
Finish my All Things Halloween junk journal.

Book or Movie that SCREAMS Halloween:
The 2 movies I will always associate to Halloween are The Nightmare Before Christmas & Rocky Horror Picture Show

What does Halloween mean to you?
Growing up, it meant a rare opportunity to be myself.

I had meant to get this up the last week of September, but was just not able. Better late than never I guess?

October is the beginning of what I call prompt list season. The main factors for this seem to be the flood of alternative lists to Inktober, the fact that virtually any theme of challenge goes well with -tober, and it's the warm up for the holidays & gifting season.

While these are mostly intended for art, they translate well into other things and sometimes you just need a good prompt list. And some of us just hoard them like a dragon.

Because I'm doing this on a phone and linking is difficult, this list will be light on links, but hopefully, I will have given you enough to find anything you find interesting.

On DW, [personal profile] vexed_wench and I are hosting our 10th Fall Fest at [community profile] allbingo. [personal profile] kiramaru7 has already agreed to make personalized banners for those who make bingo by the end of the month.

At [community profile] krazykattstableemporium, we have added several new prompt tables: tables 2-7 of the Halloween Baking Challenge inspired prompts, a Batman 85th Anniversary table, a fall flavor inspired table, and fall/Halloween candle inspired table. (We are aware of the typos, but a certain hurricane interrupted the editing process.)

Prompt lists that have caught my attention elsewhere in the wild:

On YouTube, ZoeHartist posted a video titled Alternative Prompt Lists for Inktober in 2024. I found her recommendations quite good and she stays on the prompt list long enough to screencap it and links to where they're from in the video description. In the video, she recommendeds:

- ArtyFartober 2024 - it's a very fall themed list, a bit random, and includes a secondary lite version of the prompt list. She links to the Artyfartists discord & Arty Farty Annie aka Annie Claxton's YouTube channel

- Mab's Drawlloween Club 2024 - this is a popular annual list that doesn't change drastically from year to year. It's mostly creatures and very spooky. It also includes a lite list. She links to MabGraves Instagram.

- Dark Artober 2024 - "1 prompt, 2 days, 0 pressure", the prompts are animal or creature combinations, like ghost + goat or toad + cow. She links to Dark Arts by Racine's YouTube channel.

- #kattober - 31 days of cats, the idea is to use the prompts like upside down, jars, thick, etc. to draw cats, but the creator has stressed it does not have to be cats. She links to Kattvalk's YouTube channel.

- Peachtober 24 - This list is if you are looking for something a little different. Some sample prompts are daisy, sparkle, apricot, pixel, pearl, and grass. She linked to Furrylittlepeach's Instagram.

- in the comments, people also recommended shiptober/otp, which there are usually several versions of every year, and birdtober, which seems to be very popular this year.

The rest of these are from Instagram:

- #inktoberbyash, hosted by ashsgreen. It's their 3rd year and this year's theme is combining cozy, fall + woodland themed prompts. It's a short list with an optional color palette.

- ACFUNTOBER 24 by ayangcempaka. It's a very random, unthemed list of 31 prompts.

- Citrus.mouse's 2024 Inktober prompt list aka #citrusmousetober by citrus.mouse. It's a very classic Halloween list. Citrus.mouse plans on using it to strengthen their flash tattoo portfolio.

- 2024 Witchtober Challenge. The theme this year is bewitched boutiques. There are 5 business themed prompts with mood boards. It has 5 hosts, but I found it via sorubiart's account

- Sharktober 2024. "A fun art challenge about creating shark related art to help spread better representation for those incredible creatures that take care of our oceans." I found it at astralrequin.

- 2024 Doodle-a-Day October by ellolovey. They have been putting up monthly lists of daily prompts all year with optional color palettes. October's is very traditional Halloween.

- Inktober Elves. This is the 7th annual list. The goal is to draw an elf a day. They have included all 7 lists to mix and match as you choose: cottagecore, flora + fauna, magical, autumnal, witchy, professional, & fashionable. There is also an optional element list to combine with your other prompt. Hosted by ranefea.

- Morning Crocodoodles October 2024 by morningcrodiles. The theme is classic horror this month. (They do lists every month.) There are 2 alternative variants of the list and an optional color palette.

- Cat-tober 2024 by black_cattober. Not to be confused with the other cat themed list, this one has prompts that are types of cats.

- Tattoober 2024 by anonymous.ink the prompts are all tattoo themed

- leartober 2024: spooky 2024 prompt list lite by learistically. A short list of spooky prompts.

- Fear'o'ween by boyfear. It has 2 prompts per day, but instead of combining them, you chose between them. Some are creepy, very seasonal.

- Witchtober with Joyouart 2024. It's a bit random, but also has witch's spell ingredients vibes

- calmtober by kriksisart 2024, a shorter list of cozy prompts

- cozy cauldron by marcies_art. It only has 5 prompts

- Goretober 2024 by strawb3rrymeat. Title is self-explanatory

- Mushtober by aly_ber. Loosely mushroom themed list

- Drawtober 2024 by drawtober. 6 prompts. The theme is monster mash.

- pinuptober 2024 by deuza_art. Pinup themed prompts

- Endicott's Tea Party 2024 by lanylevendula. Mostly cozy tea party vibes

- Dolltober 2024 by salem_sisterhood. This list is geared towards doll collectors and doll & toy photography

- Cabinet of Curiosities Inktober 2024, #sadinktober24, by stephanie.artdesign. things you'd find in a cabinet of curiosities.

- minitober magic by minimagia_3 just a very cute & different list

- emojitober by isa.b.e.e the prompts are strings of emojis

- rattober 2024 by thebeanbaguette. You guessed it, rat themed prompts.

- The Haunted Tea House Japan Edition by yumi.tiger This one if fairly self-explanatory

- SuperBatober has no official list, it's just an artist (mikemaihack) drawing Batgirl & Supergirl comics. They are fun. Check them out.

I have 9ish more lists saved and they are great lists, but they are all more typical Halloween lists, cute Halloween lists, or cozy fall lists, and once you start looking for lists, you are bound to find oodles of them. These are just the ones that caught my eye the last week of September.

Happy 100 days until Halloween!

I'm not doing this year's 100 Days of Halloween Happy challenge, mostly because I still haven't finished last year's and the prompts don't change much from year to year (aside from order). I'd rather finish that and do some mini challenges this year.

To Mark the Day, I present to you the Horror Movie Challenge!

One point for each one you've seen (any version of any movie counts):

What did you get?

I'll put my score in the comments.

I have been trying to figure out how to finish this up without flooding people's reading cirlces and I think I've landed on something that will work well for me and not take over your reading circles.

While I wasn't able to post many prompts, I did write many of them out by hand to be posted later. Many of them are extremely short, but I don't like the idea of doing one post with a ton of prompts in it, especially as I have a master post prepped to link to all finished prompts when I am done. What I've decided to do instead is to put up this post. In the body of the post I will list a prompt and maybe a brief description of what I did for the prompt (ex. "craft project" or "TV show reaction"), and I will put the prompt fill in a comment on this post. That way, I can still link to individual fills on the master post, I can put up fills as I find them, and no one's reading circle gets flooded. Longer fills will still get their own posts and some fills are actually fics that will be going up on AO3 - which is why there will be a master post after I get everything posted.

However, it doesn't look like I will get all 100 prompts posted by the end of the year as I had hoped and I am thinking about not doing this challenge next year, as I have tried multiple years now and it's just too difficult for me. Makes me a little sad, but probably for the best.

This is definitely not complete, especially the Webtoons list, but it's as complete as I could make it. A lot of the non-fiction books are also graphic novels. Most of the novels are book club picks, including the Colleen Hoover one. My Adventures with Superman is new animated series on HBO. Adventures of Superman is a live action series from the 1950s.

It's official! The first set of prompts for the Halloween Baking Championship inspired table is up for playing with at [community profile] krazykattstableemporium! The first hundred prompts are up to play with and inspire. I have it on good authority that a few hundred more are on the way as time for table coding allows.

BOO!
I hope you are all having an awesome Halloween. At work I dressed up as the filing fairy. My boss gave me fluorescent Blue temporary hair dye as a present. I also went by the area desk and got some candy as well as trick or treating on facebook. Originally Hairball and I had planned on doing a movie night at her house while we put together my graduation announcements, but we both had to cancel. I then planned on doing the free online horror film festival. It featured the classics Night of the Living Dead, Dementia 13, Horror Hotel, Black Sabbath, The Ape, I Eat Your Skin, Mania, My Son the Vampire, and Countess Dracula. But my midterm got moved to November 1st, so now I shall have no fun and study instead. Ok, so I had a little fun. I splurged on dinner. I got shrimp bento box and a Philly roll (sushi) from downstairs. I shall make up for it on Friday.
Have fun!

I made Pocket choke on his ice cream cone. We were talking about my piercing and then he was giving me a bad time about leaving in December, so I said "I would only be staying here to get more piercings." Then he choked. You had to be there, but he likes my nose ring.

I have finally seen the Guru.

This crusty old guy told me I had a beautiful smile. It was unexpected and came at the right time. Because it caught me completely off guard and seemed genuine, it brightened my day.

Amazingly my piercing is a week old and it is doing well. I have managed to keep to the care instructions very well and no infections or anything. Go me!

I have been basically living off sushi and water. Granted it's sushi from the school bistro but hey it is better than some of the sushi at some of the restaurants around here.

This is awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00geU9cjFG8&mode=related&search=

Thursday night was the premiere of the new season of CSI. My roommate invited my friend powerpuffboy to come watch it with us because he has no tv and really wanted to see if Sarah dies. (Sadly, she does not.) This irked me a little because even though he is my friend, and we were going to watch it anyway, and I really don't mind too much if he comes over, she asked him without asking me first. It shouldn't bug me but it does a little bit. He called me afterward to tell me that he left his sweatshirt there and if it would be ok if he left it there till another day. I, of course, said yes, and now because of it I have gotten to meet the girlfriend. She was in town today and he decided to pick up the sweatshirt. She is a very sweet girl and I am glad I finally got to meet her.

It is weird being back here because everyone I know is at a totally new place in their lives then they were last time I saw them. I see more people that I know then I have any other school year but in completely new contexts. Pocket isn't an RA anymore, now he is a complex director assistant. The DAs that stayed are no longer my coworkers. There are people I lived with their freshmen years (my sophomore, junior and 1st senior years) are in my classes and it is the first time I have seen them since we lived together. The list goes on and on.

Friday, Hoobie and I went to Spirit. I could have spent forever in there. I was having one of those "I'll take one of everything please" moments. I managed to leave with only on purchase of an $8 top hat. How we may never know. Halloween is truly my favorite holiday. I'm going back on Tuesday because they are getting a new shipment in.

I am a little bummed because this weekend was a Zombie walk, nudie sushi night, and Fetish night and, for various reasons, I had to miss them all.

Another reason to go back to Spirit. There is this guy that works there. Do I really need to add more details? He is the one that told me about the shipment coming in and the Zombie night. He also went out of his way to say bye to me when Hoobie and I left the store. I wonder what costume he will be wearing this time.

Hairball and I made it to Saturday Market. She bought a fabulous hat. There are pictures of the fabulous hat. One day I may finish uploading photos to facebook and flickr and you will be able to see them. Hopefully this will remain a standing appointment for us for the rest of the season.

On Sunday, I dragged my roommate out of our room because I was tired of watching her mope about with nothing to do. We went to the mall and I now own my first HIM t-shirt. It was the first one I have ever seen in my size. We also went to target and the movies. Target was more entertaining than it should have been. The toy section and the holiday section had me practically drooling and I was able to price flash drives. We also both finally got to see The Simpsons Movie. It was well worth the wait. I was singing spider pig all the way home.

For the HIM fans: There have been a bunch of good links to listen to radio interviews on Valo Daily. I would make links to them but I have a feeling that by the time I post this some of the links would be expired and it is a lot of work to post that many, so you will have to search on your own. But they are worth the search.
