Welcome to June's monthly theme post. This month we're thinking of the smaller areas within a larger space with the theme 'nooks & crannies' - interpret this how you will but a few examples could be little used drawers, shelves you haven't checked through for a while, the space beside a cupboard/chair or behind a seating arrangement.

Basically anywhere that might not get looked at very often will fit the bill for this month - it may be that all the space needs is a clean to be free of dust, or it might actually be an easily forgotten space that we use as a temporary measure for storing things we plan to deal with later - if you are anything like me, they'll be things I've soon forgotten about.

So we'll tackle a different room each week and try to check up on the forgotten spaces or the forgotten clutter. We'll start this week with the bedroom. Here's hoping that unexpectedly most of the spaces will just need a bit of a clean!

Just in case I miss a week or am late posting, here's the monthly plan:

Week 1: Bedroom
Week 2: Kitchen
Week 3: Lounge/Living Room
Week 4: Your choice but could be bathroom/spare room/study/cupboard in the hallway/garage/loft or attic space or even a garden shed! Or if you feel like you're making good progress and would rather revisit one of the earlier rooms that works too.

Have a good month - I'll post as often as I can - tell us how you get on.

Um...whut?

So I got half-spoiled for the ending of Doctor Who last night because I forgot the Cardinal Rule: Avoid YouTube on Saturday afternoons. Even if the poster of the video tries to avoid it, YouTube will always pick the absolutely most spoilerific image of the whole video as its preview image. On the other hand, from what I'm reading this morning, it may have been available here already at that point; I was waiting until 7:00 p.m., because that's when it's normally available.

The episode Read more... )

I'll probably rewatch both last week's episode and this week's, perhaps this evening.

Sorry it's late, but I was at a Quinceanera for a friend's granddaughter. Very cool, but OMG I needed earplugs. It felt like I was at an Aerosmith concert, it was so loud. I left as soon as they did their dances.

Hokey smokes, it's NATG time already! We have a task! It's: "Draw a pony standing // Draw a pony planting their hooves". King Grimlock is doing the heavy lifting this year (since Calpain left EqD in a huff last year) but Calpain is going to be whispering into his ear, thus the idiom masquerading as a prompt. Well, gardening... Are the hooves still attached to the pony burying it?

As always, draw (or sculpt or do a photo-montage), host the image of what you made in an online gallery and drop the URL into the submission form here, it's not live yet but it will probably be activated soon, in time for the deadline at least. 9_9 Also, the prompt's wrong, "holding it's ground" was last year's prompt, my 2024 pony was holding a cup o' joe. When it gets straightened out, you will be able to enter five different images per prompt. The maximum resolution is 2000x2000 pixels, so chose a link from your gallery that points to a version of your image that does not exceed 2,000 pixels on either side. Also, don't exceed 4 Mb per picture or the poniloader will plotz and choke on your picture. MLPforums and Discord work as image hosts in a pinch, although I think that there's an expiry date on those options. Xitter works somehow, it looks like Mastodon does, probabably Bluesky as well. I use Flickr and Imgur is said to work too. Eventually the pictures will be visible on EqD and we'll see if there is a pattern to the URL like in year's past. It could end up being this: https://www.equestriadaily.com/2025/06/newbie-artist-training-grounds-xv-day-2.html .

I expect the deadline to be at 9 PM Mountain Standard Time (or midnight Eastern Daylight Savings Time and 5 AM UTC), Monday-ish, with a three hour grace period past the deadline during which the submitter would still be open. I don't know if there will be any late submission catch-up days this time around.

The State of the Ficcery: May 2025

Writing: So I cranked out two explicit BTS fics for [community profile] super_effucktive [formerly known as Dick or Treat]. I also did a series of four short ficlets for my Yahtzee prompts in the original Dracula fandom and posted on [community profile] the_scent_of_lilacs. I managed the 10 of 20 challenge on [community profile] sweetandshort

I have another set of Yahtzee prompts, and I have three more categories I could fill before it ends (June 18/25) but I don't know if I am feeling motivated to do that. Part of me wants to cut bait.

Because in June, I am going to be focused on my case fic exchange fic. There is a certain voice I need to capture in my head, and it's tricky (not quite as tricky as Bertie Wooster but a challenge in its own right) so that takes mental bandwidth, clearing the mechanism.

Poetry: I am almost caught up on my 52 poem prompts. This week's (which I haven't done yet) is prose poem. 3 poems done in May. I liked Stacy. I think that one worked properly.

Reading: 7 books which brings me up to 30 for the year (which is fine. I have no goal with regard to number of books read).

I just realized I haven't done a Book Bingo update since the end of March so I should do that in June. I listened to The Guest List by Lucy Foley for the multiple POV square. It was okay. Nobody was especially likable and it was 'public schoolboys kill someone and finally face consequences 20 years later. lol' I have at least 3 more I can fill already so I need to sit down and update that. Also I have 2 in my TBR which fill slots. I think the hardest one is going to be the TV Movie Tie in because I don't watch TV or movies so if there are new things in this category in the mystery/detective genre, let me know. And I've already read all the Murderbots.

I am reading the Inspector Rebus in order and I've just finished #18 & #19. Unfortunately, I've already read the ones that had TV episodes about them. I read a short story collection by Tom Mead, the locked-room magician author I've mentioned before.

Crafting: 8 spreads & 6 cards and my Alma Thomas jigsaw puzzle.

June's color theme will be peach/orange as well as rainbow for pride. There is a different kind of craft I could do in June. I may break it out.

Heath & Fitness: 16 days of yoga. But my weight is up from the first of the year. I need to stop eating junk. That's most of the problem.

Personal: I turned 50! Wow! I applied for my AARP card even though I am not a retired person. I'm just old. The boys' father went to Kenya for 10 days and returned safely. Maintenace issues (leaks and mice) persist. And they are redrawing lines for schools so we will more than likely be moving by next spring.

And the big news, I got an email late on Friday saying to call the home health agency for an interview!!! I got it too late to catch the HR office open but I will be calling Monday morning!!

June is Pride! On y va!

Author’s summary: The thing is, he hadn’t really meant to say it. Not then. Not there. He hadn’t really ever even thought about it before, not in such specific terms. So, it’s as much of a shock to him as it is to anyone else.

or, Rodney's trying so hard and John just doesn't get it.

Why This Must Be Read: This is such a beautiful story—everyone who’s ever enjoyed a true love read should go for it! It shows us Rodney in a light far removed from his well-known and accepted behavior, revealing his most endearing sides: quiet, loving, cautious, thoughtful, and deeply romantic. You’ll suffer with him as he bears the pain of an oblivious John, who just can’t see the woods for the trees. But you’ll also witness the wonders that true love is capable of—and the happiness, and ultimately, the fulfillment it brings.

The way it’s written—in a kind of reverse 5+1 structure—feels like a countdown, ignition, and finally, lift-off for the rocket of love that is McShep

Hello to all members, passers-by, curious onlookers, and shy lurkers, and welcome to our regular daily check-in post. Just leave a comment below to let us know how your current projects are progressing, or even if they're not.

Checking in is NOT compulsory, check in as often or as seldom as you want, this community isn't about pressure it's about encouragement, motivation, and support. Crafting is meant to be fun, and what's more fun than sharing achievements and seeing the wonderful things everyone else is creating?

There may also occasionally be questions, but again you don't have to answer them, they're just a way of getting to know each other a bit better.

This Week's Question: We all probably have multiple WiPs, but which of yours has been hanging around longest, waiting to be finished?

If anyone has any questions of their own about the community, or suggestions for tags, questions to be asked on the check-in posts, or if anyone is interested in playing check-in host for a week here on the community, which would entail putting up the daily check-in posts and responding to comments, go to the Questions & Suggestions post and leave a comment.

I now declare this Check-In OPEN!

hello? i got ripped up by my own brain?
i was having a Fantastic dream this morning
dreaming that i was sleeping in a room not my own when suddenly a beam of light came from a hole in the ceiling
you know how tiny holes can act as a lens? yeah
this one played tiny short movies in black and white across the bedsheets
animation was a bit choppy but every short had a different style
there was minimalist drawing
there was freaking 90ties shoujo
there was Berserk??
and so many more
but
i forgot almost every detail once i woke up
because my brain replaced them by another dream about freaking menu lists
(who cares about menus? i have a written memo in the waking world for menus and grocery lists! so i don't have to use my brain space for that! give me back the dream art!!!)

I've discovered a new-to-me albums and that is making me happy (which is much needed!). I splurged and got them both as a b'day present to myself. I finally get the day off, too -- because it's on a Sunday when the business is closed. Maybe I can use this momentum to continue feeling better.

1. Melissa Etheridge, "One Way Out," 2021. I've been a huge fan of hers since her debut album back in 1988, but I wasn't really impressed with the ones that came out after the first five. I've been disappointed with each new one, but I never gave up the hope that one day she would create another one I'd love. Now, finally, I took a listen to "One Way Out" and IMHO it's the best one she's done in decades. It's not perfect, but something about the songs reminds me of the style of her debut and Brave & Crazy (which I adore). That makes me very happy!

HAPPY PRIDE MONTH!

It's been so long since I've done anything more than work and stay home that I was thinking it might be nice to celebrate a bit this year. The last Pride Parade I went to was in NYC, which of course set the bar very high. And now I live in Red hell. In any case, Atlanta Pride is in October and it's pretty iffy whether I'll feel up to dealing with a trip to the city.  There's a celebration next weekend in a smaller city not too horribly far away and I've love to feel up to venturing out, but I'm not making any promises to myself.

Hmm... it might be fun to do a Dreamwidth-type fest for myself, by writing LGBTQ+ themed fic and making various other types of posts during the month. Yes, I think I'm going to do that.

Spoiler for the new season of Leverage: Redemption under the cut: )

Guess that's it for now; I'm already way past my bedtime.
