I'm not sure how long I'm going to have unlimited access to a machine with a real keyboard, so I am doing this now:
o1. What did you do in 2023 that you'd never done before?
Um, I can't think of any big, "I've never done this before" things, but I did lots of little stuff, like at the art book workshops this year none of the techniques were new to me and I've made art books before, but I've never used those techniques that way to make those books before. I'm housesitting for someone I've never housesat for before and taking care of cats I've never taken care of before. I joined a book club at the library that is a different book club at the library than what I belonged to before, though some people overlap. I went to a gaming convention, which I've done before, but never a local one, as this was the first ever. Just as some examples. So, basically, I've been doing new variations of old things?
I feel like someone is going to pop into the comments and point out things I did that I've forgotten about.
o2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I'm not going to do my usual bit about the differences between resolutions and goals, as I see them as very different things, but generally these kinds of things see them as the same. I'm working on a post going over how I did with my 2023 goals, but the short answer is kind of? I put a lot of effort into doing so, but still fell short in a lot of ways.
As for goals for next year, yes, I will but I'm still thinking on those. Mostly, they are continuing things that worked this year and changing or dropping things that didn't. My brain is very much jello.
o3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes, one of my nieces had a baby, making me a great aunt :)
o4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes.
o5. What countries did you visit?
None.
o6. What would you like to have in 2024 that you lacked in 2023?
More stability. Every time I turned around there was some kind of mini crisis/emergency that had to be dealt with, often several at a time, and I felt like I was constantly taking care of other people's everything and putting myself on the back burner.
o7. What date from 2023 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
The whole year is just kind of a muddled stew of pain, sad, and horrible, that was both the longest and fastest year at the same time, with fleeting sprinkles of good. Dates are not something that stuck.
o8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I survived. If I can ever properly process any part of the year, I might have a better answer, but for now, that's enough.
o9. What was your biggest failure?
There are so many, I'm not sure I could rank them.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I was varying types of unwell all year. Stress will do that to you. No particular injuries stick out, but there were quite a few. As of right now, on my right hand, I have a large healing burn, on my left hand, I've got a gnarly papercut that doesn't seem infected, but should have healed by now, and both hands are bright pink and dried out from the amount of dishes I had to wash two days ago.
Also should go here, whatever is going on with my left foot (it keeps cramping up constantly) and whatever is pinched in my back that makes my left leg go partially numb if I stand too long, has gotten worse and recently started to team up, making it hard to stand and I've started walking like a penguin.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
It's kind of a toss up between a few things. I bought some really awesome food this year, but I also bought the most comfy compression socks (they were in a pack of 3 pairs), but I also got unicorn scented deodorant, which is amazing on multi-different levels.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My local library and it's staff
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
We do not have enough space to cover this.
14. Where did most of your money go?
This is an excellent question, lol. I'm willing to bet it's toward knitting supplies.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
I know for a fact that did get excited about a few things this year, but my anxiety has been so extra this year, it's all be clouded and hard to think up something in particular. Though today a package that should be the mini Mango plush and the mini Emotional Support Demon I ordered a few months ago (I am housesitting and it went to my house, my mother confirmed it arrived, but it hasn't been opened so I can't be 100% sure yet it's my correct order), and I know I was really excited those were coming out and there was a severe discount for ordering both. (Though I did get all anxious when it came time to order it.)
AND M came to visit me for the first time in 6 years, very exciting indeed.
16. What song will always remind you of 2023?
I don't know if it will always remind me of 2023, but the first song that came to mind was "Wilson (Expensive Mistakes)" by Fall Out Boy. I listened to it a lot and for a lot of different reasons.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you
i. happier or sadder?
Sadder
ii. thinner or fatter?
I technically don't know, but I pretty much have to be fatter.
iii. richer or poorer?
I think it might be a wash, but I've also had a steady bit of income the last bit of the year, which I didn't last year, but my spending habits have been different between the two years, so it could be richer, but I think its a wash.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Taken time to just enjoy things. Said no. Used the library computer. Keep in touch with people.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
I wish I'd had fewer anxiety episodes.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I went home for breakfast & opening presents & talked to one of my uncles on the phone. Then, I came back here and I made up cookie platters to distribute while listening to a punk Christmas music mix very loudly. I distributed 5 of them, my mother said she would do the other 5 for me the day after Christmas (she hasn't, but she also had a full day). I spent a few minutes with D and her family. After that, I went home again to spend time with my aunt, while she and my mother started cooking their Christmas dinner. Then I went to my dad's for dinner, where we barbecued, chatted about a bunch of family drama I would LOVE to get into, but not on a public post, and watched King Kong: Skull Island (2019). After that, I came back here and watched the cats play with the walnuts I brought them until I fell asleep.

39. Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
Vexed, unquestionably
40. Quote a song that sums up your year:

41. What was your favourite moment of the year?

42. What was your least favourite moment of the year?
There are so many to chose from, but I think I am going to go with sitting with my cat while she died.
43. Where were you when 2023 started?
Pretty sure I was at home lamenting that my sister (allegedly) stole the heating gel from my fondue set.
44. Who were you with?
I believe mom had gone to bed by then, so alone.
45. Where will you be when 2023 ends?
Honestly, I have no idea.

47. What was your favourite month of 2023?
Did I have a good month?
48. Did you drink a lot of alcohol in 2023?

50. What are your plans for 2024?
Figure out a graceful way to deal with a situation I don't think I am supposed to talk about on the internet. Continue the slow, painful process of getting my shit together. Possibly get a pair of kittens.
And while this wasn't really a plan, I am pretty sure I have been enlisted in helping B find thing to do that stimulate D's mind. Her mental decline has been very rapid.
Why did it take me so many hours to finish this?
