Work

Ok, so I ended up working for Linda the whole summer. We worked on both houses, mostly the house up the river. At the end we ended up working on getting her classroom ready for the school year. I hope she was able to finish without me because that last week before school I was working on the car show and then I was sick. I actually have been sick a lot this summer. She worked me very hard and frankly I am so far removed from it now I don't really want to go into much detail, especially since it did have some good perks and she paid well. I hope I remember to call her today since she called this weekend, but I was sick, again and yesterday I just forgot. I must seem like a real heel. I did somehow manage to make my money goal. Although I kinda wish I made a little more since a bunch of big money expenses have creeped up on me. I can still do it but it is going to be tight. Which brings me to my other news. Housing e-mailed me. They want me to work in the main office. It sounds like I have the job but they want to do a short interview. I am hoping it is just a formality but anything can happen so I don't want to say I have the job yet. But it would certain make things a bit easier.

Car Show

It was time again for the MDA Benefit Car Show. My Uncle is in charge of it every year and he uses his family as manual labor. I was more involved then usual this year. I went with my grandmother to go drop off sponsor forms and pick up checks. I was Dayle's secretary on several occasions. Two of the girls that hang around the shop and I sorted cans and cashed them in. I also did the window "stickers". Thats just what I did. There where also trips to the casino to pick up stuff. Bag stuffing. T-shirt labeling and bagging. T-shirt designing and ordering. The list goes on. It is always a team effort and it is always a mess the night before. The day of we all got up early to set up. I got put in charge of the registration table. My cousins were in charge of the raffle. One of my aunts was in charge of the silent auction. Another aunt and one of my uncles was in charge of the motorcycle's poker run. My uncle that runs the show's mother was in charge of the t-shirt sales and my grandmother was in charge of Quillow sales. It was a long hard day and great fun. I did get to take a break and go look at the cars. There were 108, I should know I was registering them. When the end of the day came we packed up in what seemed like seconds. there was a brief moment of panic when everyone thought I didn't have a ride home but my grandmother took be. I think Dayle was very happy. It was his 10th annual and he wanted to make it special. A few days after the car show my grandmother and I were on the road again delivering t-shirts to sponsors that hadn't picked them up yet. And we are all happy that we don't have to deal with this again till next year.

Beach

I did manage to make it to the beach a few times this summer. That is the whole point of going home right? Most of the time I was there I just ate lunch there and watched the tourists. One time I saw a bunny playing amongst the squirrels but I think I may have already wrote about that. One of the times I was down there about dusk, it is the perfect time to go because the tourists are about gone because it is too cold for them, I got some cool pics I hope to post soon. Another time I went down was in the midst of the tourists. They are interesting to watch. Most of the tourists we get are either hippies or bikers, but in the last few years we have been getting a good number of families too. There was this one cowboy there and from just watching him you could tell that he had never seen the ocean in person before. There were lots of interesting people there but he sticks out in my mind the most. The other person that really sticks out in my mind is this woman that came up to talk to me when I was rinsing my feet at the faucet. The wind was blowing so my hair was flying everywhere and there is this short wall (about to my chest but not quite) in front of the faucet. My hair is also several shades of green and blonde. And she said she had to tell me that as she was walking up, when I was bent down washing my feet that I looked like mermaid emerging from the ocean. That was kind of cool, especially considering all the flack I have been getting. Although she wasn't the first person this summer to say I had mermaid hair.

Romeo
Romeo has had many problems, including a massive infestation of fleas and ear mites that he brought with him from the shelter. I think we have finally gotten the upper hand but wasn't easy. The poor little guy was so miserable. He was even losing his hair because of it. It is growing back in nicely now.
The cat has sampled many sleeping places in the house. I think he has decided that his favorite is my bed. For awhile it was the bottom half of his pet carrier with a certain blanket placed on a high perch, but then we took him to the vet in it.
Romeo has become somewhat of a little captain destructo. He is a klutz and has broken several things in attempts to jump up on bookshelves and tables. He tends to miss or slip. Of course this isn’t counting the times that he knocks things off of shelves intentionally. He has also taken up using my blue rocker chair as a chew toy.
We have also been doing a lot of cat research lately, which isn't easy considering the limited resources at the library. If you go to the pet section and then to cats it looks like a lot of books but 90% of them are on breeds. There is a "Cats for Dummies" book and one out dated pet care book. There are also several books on how to talk to your children about cats, two holistic pet care books, one psychology of cats book, and a few on cat myths and lore. That's it. The reason we have been doing some research is that we have never adopted an adult cat before. We have always got kittens. I don't care what the books say, getting an adult is harder. They already have their own personalities and it is a big adjustment to everyone. With a kitten they are growing up around you so you get to know them gradually and there is no big adjustment. They grow up with you and don't have to relearn anything and you don't have to sit there and try to figure out what is going on in that kitty head of his because you already know from experience. We are just trying to make it as easy as possible for everyone.
Romeo also had his first "well kitty" vet visit. Because it was his first visit he got a goody bag full of samples and toys. The vet and the nurse kept going on about how beautiful and well behaved he was. When they were cleaning his ears he almost didn't fight at all. They said it was the easiest ear cleaning they have ever done.

Art walks and festival
I’m kinda bummed that I missed the Art Walk before last because Greg Noll was there! Live and in person. One of the galleries was featuring his sculptures. I was a little excited that even though he was only there for the one night that his sculpture would bee there all month so I could still see them. But I never made it. When ever I could go, the gallery wasn’t open. It seems as though all galleries keep ridiculous hours.
At the last art walk The featured artist at one of the galleries was Duncan Regehr. I actually don’t like a fair share of his work but I love some of his crow pieces. Especially Corvus Rex V, but I couldn’t find it on his website to show you. http://www.duncanregehr.com/main.htm During that art walk that was pretty much all we looked at. We also went to the show at the library that featured local political celebrities. It turns out, much to my annoyance, that the idiot that writes that horrible feature column every week that no one likes, is actually a very talented photographer. The only other thing of note was while we were walking through one gallery to get to another there was a Scottish artist talking about his work and he explained that he liked painting here because it reminds him of Scotland.
The Art Festival was better than I expected. The main things I remember where the "Grandpa's Toys" booth that had a lot of stuff like we would have for Rendezvous and the guy that was selling the hair twirls. I have no idea what they are actually called. They are these twisted pieces of metal for holding your hair back. I love them. I was the guy's hair model more than once. He said I had mermaid hair. He was a really nice guy that talked to us for awhile. Frankly I was more excited about the giant oyster I got for breakfast the second day than most of the booths. We also went to one of the "Antiques" malls. I was very surprised to see an erotic novelties booth. But now I have heard of glow in the dark bubbles and I am very fascinated. There was also a oxygen bar booth. Some booths actually had antiques and I fell in love with a little metal antique piggy bank but managed to refrain from buying him.

Jenny
Jen has been here twice now. The first time was to help clean out the house up the river and go through her old stuff. It was kinda fun and kinda sad. We spent so much time together it was like, even though it was her stuff, that we were throwing away parts of both of our childhoods. It also reminded me that we don’t spend enough time together anymore, not that it is really possible to spend much time together. We have changed so much in the last 4 years. I feel so disconnected. We spent nearly every day together for 18 years and now we only see each other a couple of times a year. We both knew it was going to happen. But it doesn’t make it any less sad. But we always fall into our weird pattern. She brought me my birthday present, which was a pair of beautiful earrings. She also brought me Shakespeare festival chocolates and mints. I shall have to figure out something really good for her birthday…and actually send it to her on time for a change. I also managed to inherit her Garfield books. The second time she came down, she brought the boyfriend, meaning I got meet him…finally. He is a very nice man and I approve, not that it really matters if I approve. Although I would like to think that my opinion still got some weight, but she has been dating him for awhile and he moved to Chicago not long after the visit so its kind of a moot point.
While Jen and I were cleaning out her old toys we decided that my obsession with My Little Ponies as a child may be responsible for my obsession with tattoos now.

Photos
I have managed to control my inner shutter bug for the most part. Not that that stopped me from taking ten billion beach pics and pictures of Romeo, but the grocery store has turned into my biggest inspiration. I have managed to keep my camera away from there though. Pics I wanted to take but didn’t: The “Black Sheep” Harley guy and his bike. I have seen him at the grocery and the car show. There has also been a wide variety of produce I wanted to capture, mostly for being freakishly large. The fresh pigs feet for sale. The rows of shakers of MSG, the rows of tins of dry mustard, the fresh shark meat, the canvas bags of fry bread mix.
On Facebook I have added 6 new albums and added 16 picture to existing albums (it was a while ago now). After I get back to school I have a bunch more to post as well. It is just too much of a pain to try and do it on my current internet connection.
I got the photos for my Christmas cards done. Eight of you are going to get an interesting card this year.
