I'm not sure how long I'm going to have unlimited access to a machine with a real keyboard, so I am doing this now:

Why did it take me so many hours to finish this?

Challenge #8

In your own space, create a quiz or a poll (or tell us your thoughts about answering quizzes/polls).

I'm going to go the "tell us your thoughts about answering quizzes/polls" route, instead of creating a quiz or poll.

I love for fun/online quizzes an unreasonable amount. Maybe it's the nostalgia of teenage years filled with magazine quizzes.

Back in the day, I went to places like Quizilla all the time and would just have LJ posts full of quiz results. (I also have vague memories of posting them at Myspace. Was that a thing you could do?)

Obviously, I don't do that anymore, but when people share quizzes with me, I take them. Sometimes when I need some quiet time, I'll take Buzzfeed quizzes on my phone. I've also got a book of personality tests that's been fun to poke at. Book Riot also has some fun "let us match you with a book to read" quizzes. I also do a lot of art & art history tests, just to kind of make sure I remember it. General trivia is fun too. I was going to do a collage of the quiz results I got this year, but I haven't gotten around to it (though I have the screen shots).

It's also fun to see how different types of social media have developed different styles of quizzes. On Instagram, you see a lot of "pick an image on slide one and swipe to the corresponding number slide" type fortunes and reels of spinning images where you tap it to stop the images or take a screen shot and what you captured is your result type fortunes there. There are also a lot of old school magazine style quizzes there too.

As for types of quizzes I won't take, I'm taking the quizzes purely for fun and am not taking them seriously, so if it takes itself too seriously or is just a topic I don't know or care about, I won't take it, but that's pretty much the criteria. For example, if it has to do with a fandom or genre I don't know, I generally won't do it, like I do not know enough Taylor Swift songs to do any of those quizzes. But something like pick a menu of food and we'll reveal what type of potato you embody, and I am there.

It's just fun.

Challenge #9

In your own space, celebrate a personal win from the past year: it can be a list of fanworks you're especially proud of, time you spent in the community, a quality or skill you cultivated in yourself, something you generally feel went well.

This challenge really threw me in January, as 2022, like 2023 has been, was a rough year, and I literally just couldn't think of anything. Which is kinda strange considering how much worse this year as been and I actually do have answers for this challenge for 2023. However, in case this challenge pops up again on the upcoming Snowflake, I don't really want to talk about this year here.

Also, I feel like, if I can find some wins for 2022, I can give myself a little grace and be able to find some for 2023, come reflection time.

So going back to 2022, I: survived, my mother and I finally got our house back to ourselves, got a new phone, finally got the labels put on the baskets in the bathroom, had success with a new pairing, rocked a few recipes that were new to me, managed to read and watch a few things that had been on my to do list a long time, finished the library's summer reading challenge, painted my first painting in several years, started knitting, started an Instagram, got to celebrate my niece's birthday with her in person, sold my car, started feeding the crows, managed to get an adult happy meal, managed to get my October sticker day Dutch Bros, got one of the new McDonald's boo buckets.

When it comes time to talk about 2023, may I remember that not every solitary thing sucked.
