Thar be spoilers so its under a cut
Overall, I was very happy with the episode and am looking forward to the rest of the season.
Dean & Mary's reunion and Mary overall: There was what I had hoped they would do with that and how I feared they would fuck it up. Luckily, it ended up somewhere in the middle, more on the side of what I wanted. I think the whole thing was handled really well and I actually feel bad for Mary. The world is so different now and her boys have grown up without her in a way she didn't want them too. Her emotions were played really well. I LOVED the scene where Mary saw the car for the first time. I hadn't even thought about that aspect and when Dean realized what Mary was thinking about, gold.
Cas: I am reserving judgment. They have given us good Cas and ripped him away before, but so far I am liking the throw back to badass Cas.
Crowley's arc: I am really looking forward to the show down between Crowley and Luci. They are setting us up for something epic, but I still remember the let down with it last season, so I am reserving judgment. The bit with the demon going on about possessing a 14 year old girl was hilarious.
Sam's arc with the British Men of Letters: Sam is a badass. We knew this. He has been through so much worse in the course of the show. I know Cas mentioned it once when he was talking to Dean, but I wish they would have pointed out a little more blatantly that Sam thinks Dean is dead through all this. And he still didn't give up. He doesn't do as well when Dean is dead though, so I am extra impressed. I don't like the British MoL chicks, at all, but that is to be expected. I do see their point of view, but they clearly have no clue what they are dealing with, and I don't mean Sam's badassery. The American branch of the MoL has been dead for what, 60 years? They are basically a myth here. Our system doesn't work like they seem to think it does. It does make sense that their system has evolved to what it is considering they did not go dark (and have been presumably been working with other branches around the world). And they have no way of knowing a lot of the bigger picture issues with Sam and Dean with the Apocalypses and God. I get that plot wise, the cluelessness is needed, but I do fear that they won't go anywhere with it development wise and they will continue to be two dimensional characters. It also brings up some questions like, why has no one checked on the American branch since it went dark? I understand staying out of the Winchester situation until now, but why not before that when they (the MoL) just disappeared?
On a separate note, I am VERY glad that my SPN Horror Mini Bang posting date was before the season premiere because the amount of similarities between Sam hallucinating and my fic are creepy.

Date: 2016-10-14 09:53 pm (UTC)While I agree that Dean would be who you want in a bar fight, I have to disagree that him getting his ass kicked in that scene was laughable. I do think he could have done better, but the MoL chick is highly trained in combat (one can assume from her other skills) and has magic brass knuckles on both hands. I think Dean was caught off guard in the beginning because he was not expecting that much of a fight. Also, with those knuckles, she did some serious damage to Cas as well, which from his expression, he was not expecting. We know from season 4 or 5, that when Cas is at full power, hitting him hurts the person who hit him. As we can recall from that one scene were Dean punched him and broke his hand but Cas was unphased. So the combination of being underestimated and magic brass knuckles gave her the clear advantage. Like I said before though, Dean could have done better.
Yeah, I was sort of hopping for Sam to smack her head into the stairs or something, but no.
I read something somewhere that Rowena will be teaming up with Crowley at some point in his hunt for Luci. (And that Gavin might make an appearance.)

Date: 2016-10-14 11:50 pm (UTC)I'm still in the "Dean could have & should have done better" camp, although you do make some valid points. Those were magic brass knuckles? I just thought they were regular ones. XD Another reason to dislike those Brits. They needed magic to over come our boys.
I know, right? But I will give her points for the wet!Sammy! ;p
YAY!! :D
