New Hair, New List
Thu, May. 1st, 2008 02:51 pmIn honor of my new hair color, my favorite hair products:
DYE:
Color Fiend in Red Rum; its a horrible brand really but Red Rum is alcohol based (as apposed to water based) so it holds better and it fades quickly but the original color is still awesome just don't fall in love with it because it will be dark pink in a couple weeks.
Punky Colour; http://www.punky.com/, we all know I am in love with all things Punky Colour, but my personal favorites are Punky Colour cream in Plum or Midnight Blue.
Garnier Nutrisse # 56 (Sangria); honestly I have gotten completely different colored hair every time I have used this and is never close to what is on the box, but once my roots start showing an inch or more and I don't feel like bleaching my hair for awhile I have found this is the perfect color for me while I decide on what is coming next. (If my roots are already showing before I dye my whole head my roots and whatever color the rest of my hair was now blend together with almost no noticeable difference and its close enough to my natural hair color that it isn't very noticeable while my hair continues to grow out. This is important for me because I can get over an inch of grow out in only a month.)
Paul Mitchell Bleach aka The Blonding System; yup Paul Mitchell has bleach now and only your stylist has it http://www.paulmitchell.com/Products/ProfessionalServices/TheBlondingSystem/Pages/TheBlondingSystem.aspx
L’Oreal Paris Colour Rays in Way Out White; It's a nice paste once you mix it and it works best on "virgin" hair. There isn't much in a box so its great to use when I am just doing my roots.
I prefer clear Shampoos with no chemically salon smell and preferable no color. There are of course exceptions to this rule. I have to smell my hair more then anyone else and I just prefer it to smell like hair (or maybe fruit).
I prefer creamy conditioners. Creamier the better. My latest favorites being Triple Moisture Neutrogena and John Frieda's Beach Blonde conditioner.
Brands:
Aussie:
This is really more of a nostalgic favorite then one i actually still use. It was a brand my older cousins used to use on their hair to style it, and it became the first one I used. I have never had any complaints and they used to make this very nice leave in conditioner in a giant pump bottle. My two favorite Aussie products (other then the leave in conditioner) you cant get anymore. Aussie changed its product line and packaging again. They were Aussie Color Mate Shampoo (it smelled like peaches) and Aussie Dual Personality Root Cleanser + Tip Mender Conditioner.
Bed Head (by TIGI):
I have never heard of anyone who used Bed Head and didn't like it. It is too expensive for me to buy 90% of the time but I bum samples whenever I can. My stylist would give me a break on the price (probably) but alas she doesn't carry it because most of her clients are old biddies and would probably be offended by the product names. She says thats the only reason she doesn't carry it; she loves it more than I do. They also make cosmetics and I have to say that my Dumb Blonde Lipgloss is the favorite piece of makeup I own and the only one that actually gets worn on any kind of regular basis. (I can count all the times I have worn make up in the last year on one hand, not counting the times I either wore just eyeliner or just lipgloss.)
Ouchless (by Goody):
I have never intentionally bought an Ouchless product. I just buy things according to my needs at the time and when I was going through my favorite styling tools that I own they just happened to be Ouchless. I get the most use out of my Ouchless shower comb; the teeth are angled just right and the vent at the top helps spread the conditioner when I comb it through my hair, and my Ouchless elastics; there are NO metal pieces for my hair to get caught on.
Garnier Fructis:
I really like the smell and the texture of the styling products.
Tools:
Hair clips in various sizes shapes and colors.
Latex gloves are a must to keep on hand when you dye your hair as often as I do. So is a very large black towel.
I prefer styling wax over gel, creamy pomades, clay, hair spray, and just about anything else you could think of.
I'm very picky about what hair brush I use. If you have ever played with my hair you understand. I use a large paddle cushion brush and a gel handle.
Wide toothed combs are not only prefered when dealing with my hair, they are necessary. You cannot get anything else through my hair.
I have three sterling silver hair spirals and I love them. http://www.singletreedesign.com/images/spirals3styles_real.jpg (these are not mine and only here to show you what I am talking about)
Debbie! What would I do without her.
