December 21 → your favorite websites this year
Favorite is hard to quantify. AO3 is my favorite place to read fic. Subeta, despite it's many issues this year, is my favorite online game. As far as journaling & blogging sites (which are necessary for my sanity), LJ is still where most of my active friends are and DW is where most of my active comms I play in are. YouTube really upset me this year, but I'm still there everyday for a billion reasons. I spend way too much time on Good Reads. Coastlines, the library's new website, is another delight, despite the new feature that is driving me nuts. Being able to control my account and create reading lists there, as well as being able to order books from other libraries myself for free, has got me reading a lot more. Netflix and Amazon also both deserve a shoutout because they are where most of my TV and movies live.
There are two websites that are new to me this year that I'm really loving.
Duolingo.com: It's a free language learning site. You can upgrade to a paid version, but the free version has a lot of features. It offers courses in 35 languages and they are always adding new ones. (That is the stats for courses for English speakers looking to learn other languages.) I'm currently using it to brush up on my German and starting to learn Japanese.
Justwatch.com: It's a streaming search engine. You plug in the name of a movie or TV show and it shows you everywhere it's legally streaming and how you can watch it on that service (stream, rent, or buy). By everywhere, it's up-to-date with over 85 streaming services. You can also look up actors and see what of their work is streaming some place. If you make an account, you can also set up a watchlist. You can also search by genre or streaming service. It also gives you other info too. It's just really nice. Unfortunately, it only searches the US market.
