I watched the episode late as usual and I really wanted to love this episode. Everyone kept telling me how great the episode was. My feelings are very mixed. There are some things I really loved and things I really did not love and almost no in between, just fair warning. That should also come with a disclaimer that I was having a lot of playback issues, while I was watching the episode and I have been having a bit of a hard time in general lately, which makes me extra moody, so that could have far more to do with my reaction to the episode than the episode itself. There are spoilers, hence the cut. Also, I have a few notes I wanted to add about episode 12.08 at the end.

As I said I wanted to love this episode so badly, and I just didn't. Of the forty plus minutes of the show, I was seriously wondering why I still watch this show for about twenty five minutes of it. But I am willing to chalk that up to my frustration with the playback on my computer and my general mood. Especially, as the parts I really didn't like coincided with the worst of my playback issues.

That also means there was twenty minutes or so of the show I did like.

Things I did like:
That for the first time in a long time, they actually acknowledged the boy's criminal records. I was beginning to think that beyond the BMoL's research they had been magically zapped out of the system or something.

I loved Mary scolding Cas. Finally, someone has needed to for a long time.

I also love Crowley's whole speech about the Winchesters being like herpes. Gold right there. Also, his fancy drink was back.

The boys in prison jumpsuits, I loved it so much I think I might have a problem.

I seriously, seriously loved the boys verses the feds in the woods. It was a lovely throwback to their roots and reminded us all of what they are really capable of. They don't get to do stuff like that often anymore and its a bit sad. Dean's whole “you're trapped out here with us” speech, perfect. Has he gotten to deliver a speech like that since season five?

Sam and the first rifle he grabbed was hilarious in ways that it shouldn't have been. It was just to small for his giant body.

I also now feel like we are finally getting more of a feel for the BMoLs, which we needed and I am more intrigued as to how this is going to play out now instead of annoyed by their presence. Also, they way they did the narrative bit with Mick bookmarking the beginning and the end of the episode was something I also enjoyed for reasons I do not know.

I also both hated and loved Billie's death scene for reasons I will bring up later.

Things I didn't like:
The prison bit, I felt like it had more potential, but instead just dragged. Who was supposed to be getting punished here? My great annoyance over it could also be that was when my computer was fucking up the most.

For most of this episode, I did not like Cas. He was just so overly emo even for him, I was just ready to call it goodnight on the series. Can they just figure out what they want to do with him already? And either have him use his powers or don't. Make up your minds.

Sam's whole “let's get” line, that he said more than once. Since when does Sam say “let's get?” The first time he said it, I thought he had been interrupted, but no, that was the line.

Again, I also both hated and loved Billie's death scene for reasons I will bring up later.

Mary being a hunter:
I have no strong feelings about this. I had just assumed that was what she would be doing all along.

Billie's death scene:
You all know I love Billie. I should be really upset she died, but I am not. Honestly, if they had killed her off last season, I would have been “Nooooo!” She had so much potential to start with, but she had been used so badly this season with no signs of improvement in sight, I am not that upset. I would rather they have used her better then used her badly then killed her off, but her death was the only thing that saved that last scene for me. Not because I wanted her to die, because I didn't, I really didn't, but because I was so PISSED off by that point. The moment I saw that Sam and Dean were dead in their cells, not just pretending to be dead, my first thought was "Oh fucking great, they made a deal with Billie and there is going to be this big scene eventually where she comes to collect them as payment and Mary is going to sacrifice herself, blah blah blah, why do I even watch this fucking show any more." Then later, when it looked like that was exactly what was happening, my only thoughts were "MOTHER FUCKING GODDAMED HELL. Seriously, I was right?! WHY *DO* I FUCKING WATCH THIS SHOW ANYMORE?" And then Cas stabbed her and I was "Oh twist I didn't see coming and Cas is actually in character for the first time since I can't remember when" and I perked up a bit. So no, I didn't like that Billie died, but I'm glad she did because I think I was seriously about to bail on the show. In a week, I might have changed my mind, mostly because I love the fandom and want to see the show to the end and most of the time I love the show, even when its bad. Also, I would probably go through some very serious withdrawals.

Episode 12.08 notes:
I sort of feel like I want to apologize for even posting a reaction post to this episode last week, just because I don't think I actually paid enough attention to it to warrant writing one. I was not feeling great and I was fighting both internet connectivity issues and dying laptop battery while I was watching it and I missed a lot. Reading through other people's reactions to the episode, all I kept thinking was, “Oh yeah... why didn't I remember/mention/notice that the first time?” So, I am sorry for doing a piss poor job.

I do however want to address two complaints I think I saw in every single reaction post to that episode however.

The scene where everyone gets on their knees to pray – Yes, it was an incredibly weird scene and took me by surprise, but I know of several denominations of Christians who only pray on their knees. They think it is the ONLY acceptable way to pray, no matter what the situation or who is around. I also live in a very, very rural conservative area and most of the churches here are very conservative as well, so that might have something to do with it. And by only acceptable way, I mean it. Bowing your head and clasping your hands in front of you will get you the angriest scowls of your life and you will be lectured and prayer will stop until you have been properly taught how to do it and you are on your knees with everyone else.

The necklace – Okay, the pillow talk scenes were ridiculous and the same part of storyline could have easily been told differently. Also, having her wear pearls made a ridiculous/bad visual joke, even though I think that was more about showing her character's sort of social status than anything else. What I don't get, are all the complaints about the fact that she was wearing jewelry while having sex. Seriously, who takes the time to take their jewelry off before sex? I actually have more to say on this vein, but I have a feeling I am just going to seriously offend someone, so I'm going to stop there.

I agree with so many things here.

I am sad Billie is gone. Crowley was awesome.

Mary is still a puzzle.

Cas there maybe hope for him yet. maybe.

The chase in the woods was still my favorite part.

I liked this one, Kat. From the boys kicking arse to Cas saving the day, it was a good one. :D My only complaint was why they never used their blood to draw an angel sigil & called Cas. XD

I'm sorry; I'm not the kind of fan that knows every minute detail about the show. I was under the impression you could call them as I'm sure I'm seen them send Cas away. >.>

*blink* I didn't think you were. I was genuinely asking a question as I had assumed I had missed something because I could only remember the banishing sigil. The only way I could remember them calling Cas was via prayer or the cell phone after he got one, but I know the archangels have summoning spells so I thought maybe I was forgetting something.

Oh... I was mixing up the banishing one with something I vaguely remember about Dean trying to call Balthazar. I honestly don't remember minute details about the show & it sounded like you thought I was being stupid. *was very upset*
