Mx. Macabre announced on their Instagram Stories that they are having surgery at the beginning of February concerning a cancer diagnosis. They have a GoFundMe up where they are looking for money to cover a couple months' rent, utilities, and transport to and from the doctor so they don't have to take public transport.
They've asked to have it shared where you can. If you can and want to donate please do:
Keep Mx safe while they recover - the embed link button html wouldn't work, but this link takes you to their gofundme.
From their Instagram stories: Unfortunately the nature of my diagnosis has been very dysphoria inducing as it's reproductive health related and this whole thing has been and will be an expensive nightmare. (And one in which I am constantly misgendered at every turn as well as fighting for my procedure itself because all they care about is if afab people can make babies ugh) I will be just fine! But the process has been emotionally and physically taxing and having a reprieve from The Grind while I recover would be a huge boon.
From their GoFundMe: My name is Mx Macabre and I am a nonbinary trans burlesque & drag performer & producer in the NYC area who will be out of work for most of February and March due both to global pandemic and recovery form a surgical procedure.
I need to have an invasive medical procedure to deal with cancer concerns in early February (the day after my birthday!) that will leave me bedridden and on light movement/duties for at least 4 weeks, if not longer due to my ongoing medical issues. I have a severe autoimmune disorder as well as fibromyalgia and am on immunosuppressive medications making healing longer and more difficult than usual. Because of this procedure I will likely be unable to accept anything but the rarest online gig, and certainly not able to work my usual jobs of retail, courier or larger nightlife performance (especially with the uptick in covid transmission).
The amount requested is enough to allow me to pay two months rent, food and utilities in relative safety and without living mired by fear of eviction or inability to keep up with bills and necessities. The COVID pandemic has wiped nearly all of my savings, and at this time I am living week to week on my performances and odd jobs as I am unable to safely work a public facing job at this time due to severe risk. This amount would also reflect transportation to/from medical appointments to avoid pubic transit as well as necessities for recovery as there is a monetary investment in items needed post surgery.
I thank everyone who has read this and considers donating, I know we live in "unprecedented times" and to have to deal with significant health issues on top of this has been, well, rather unprecedented. I cannot begin to express how much the support from my community means to me, and how much I look forward to serving my community via creating and fostering welcoming events and spaces as soon as the pandemic allows.
