I know it is a little silly finishing up the Snowflake Challenge so close to the beginning of the new one, but I really want to do all the challenges at least one year, and I decided it's going to be this year.
Challenge #3
In your own space, Scream Into the Void. Get it all out.
A bit of venting under the cut
This clearly calls for a Festivus style airing of grievances, as was even recommended in the original challenge post.
My biggest grievance (especially when this challenge was shiny and new) is the movement in fandom away from "don't yuck someone else's yum." It feels like we have backslid a bit. The number of times I have seen/heard variations of "all shipping is bad," "non-canon ships are bad," "all mature content is bad," etc, makes me feel like I have gone back in time to the early 2000s. I thought we had moved past that for the most part. Just let people fandom.
On the note of just let people fandom, the uptick of negative comments on things just because it wasn't the commenter's pairing or a kink they don't approve of or whatever it was they don't like and knew it was in the fic and decided to stop by and comment on it anyway, is disheartening. Just not interacting with the thing you don't like is an option.
And just let people be cringe. We're all just trying to find things that bring us joy.
