I'm doing the challenges a little out of order because one of my wishes has a deadline.

Challenge #5

In your own space, create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, a wishlist of sorts.

It always feels a little weird doing a wishlist so soon after the holidays, especially as some exchanges like Fandom Trees usually haven't done their reveals yet, but that relates to my main wish on my wishlist right now.

1) If you have time and inclination, please check out the needy trees at [community profile] fandomtrees. The goal is for every person who signed up to have at least two gifts under their tree before the reveals on the 17th and it looks we have nine people who still have zero or only one gift. You do not need to have signed up with a tree to leave fills under a tree.

2) Tell me your favorite place to play in fandom or consume fandomy things that isn't DW or AO3.

3) Rec me your favorite thing you read last year; fic, book, article, blog, whatever. Audio, physical, e-format, etc. It all counts, as long as you loved it.

Thank you for reading.

I’m only doing artwork for my gifts to give. But many of them only want fics, so leaves me out.

3) I loved Sara Raasch's books! I read The Nightmare Before Kissmas (Royals and Romance #1), Go Luck Yourself (Royals and Romance #2), and The Entanglement of Rival Wizards (Magic and Romance #1) and they were all fantastic.

I haven't read any professional novels in quite a while but someone mentioned a book to me and I was intrigued enough to get the ebook off Amazon.

Forty Words for Sorrow by Giles Blunt.

It is the original novel that was later used to create Season 1 of a Canadian TV drama called Cardinal, about a detective (Cardinal) investigating a serial killer. Overall the series stayed VERY close to the book except for a change in the ending to make it more dramatic.

queenslayerbee: Isabelle Adjany as Lucy Harker in 1979's "Nosferatu the Vampire". She's surrounded by darkness, looking over her shoulder while she wears a white nightgown and a cross as a necklace. A hand with long nails like a claw is reaching for her neck from the darkness behind her. (Default)

Coming here from the snowflake challenge page with some of the things I loved reading last year ^⁻^

-The Refrigerator Monologues by Catherynne M. Valente. It's a short novella that runs with the of the Women in Refrigerators trope, constructing several ex-pies of fridged women in comics and presenting their stories from their perspective.

-Chew by Tamsyn Muir. Horror short story. In general I enjoyed all I read from her this year (mainly, The Locked Tomb series, obviously).

-Wonder Woman: Historia #1-3 and The Other History of the DC Universe #1-5. I think even if you don't read comic books or aren't familiar with the canon, these are really good, especially the first one (the second one might lose something if you're not familiar with it). WW:H is a retelling of the Wonder Woman mythos, specifically focused on the Amazons before Diana's arrival (future issues were meant to expand on Diana herself, but #1-3 is a closed story). It does so with a lot of consciousness and incredibly gorgeous art work worth checking the comic out alone. The Other History retells famous events from comics from the perspective of often neglected characters of colour, one in each issue, expanding on them. I think both comics are really good at challenging established narratives, each of which came with heavy baggage, and probably the best DC mini-series of the decade, to me.
